Sustainable Technologies from Kimberley for mycube:

There are a lot of people who “discover” the value of sustainability when discovering Australia.

Most sustainable solutions are light weight, become easy to use (once you know how)
and most importantly: have less waste!

In particular we try to minimise the use of LPG for sustainablilty and safety reasons. However, it is still available only for outside cooking and then only with highly efficient appliances.

At Kimberley, we have invested in Australian R&D to provide practical sustainable energy solutions.

There is at least 15 initiatives available to customers accross our range:

.

  • LED lights 100% throughout range (low power, long life)
  • Diesel cook-tops (Karavan only) - NO LPG
  • Diesel hot water (highly efficent) - NO LPG
  • Diesel heaters (both air and hot water) - Safe - NO LPG
  • Vacuum toilets (ZERO chemicals), can be disposed easily.
  • Low power space heaters using stored energy (with the diesel heater) - NO LPG
  • Eutectic refrigerators (Kamper range) - 12V
  • Remote mounted compressor refrigerators ( Karavan only) - 12V NO LPG
  • Di-electric membrane heater under the mattress (low energy) - 12V
  • Solar panels (renewable power)
  • Dual Skin and hooded universal BBQ’s if using LPG (high efficiency- low consumption)
  • Low pressure cookers if using LPG (low energy)
  • Low power pumps (we supply both a low power and high power pump)
  • Tropical roofs for insulation (Kamper & MYCUBE range)
  • Quality insulation throughout the Karavan. (high efficency)

Three of these technologies are available on MYCUBE

Tropical Roof and High Pitch Roof Design for cooling

Tropical Roof
Carbonfree Lighting™

We have learnt that key to sustainable energy is low power devices and lighting.

We import directly from the manuacturer, LED lighting that is over 600Lumens per watt of power. This is more than double the output compared to off the shelf or packaged LED's.

We also specify the LED's to a colour temperature of over 6500 degrees Kelvin which is a blue/white light that does not attract as many insects and bugs.

There are 4 sets of LED in the optional Energy Pak. One above the ladder, one in the roof (patented) and one on either side for reading.

Dielectric Membrane Heater

This technology was developed and is patented in Sweden for heated car seats. It is chosen as it is low voltage, cannot over-heat, is moisture proof (feels like a thick soft plastic) and is placed UNDER the mattress on top of the floor.

This heater will eliminate condensation and will warm the mattress for coool evenings. It will keep the mattress dry. The 12V power uses approx 1 Amp at 12V and so can be operated by a long cigarette lighter plug to the car through the window.

An Alternative is a 7Ah battery located in the deflector shield which will give at least 4 hours of heat before the need for re-charging.

There is a timer/controller inside MyCube.

For typical use with either the ladder light and or the centre light or reading lights on for 2 hours a night, the battery system will operate without charging for 2 nights (typical weekend)

The Solar Panel will need exposure for 3 times the number of hours of typical use per day to fully charge the battery in typical sunny conditions.

An alternative to the solar panel is to charge the battery from a cigarette lighter adaptor to the vehicle.
